The Pacific-Ice outdoor ice rinks are successful because of the installation system we invented, which we have a patent on. No other synthetic ice company in the world has an outdoor application. It has nothing to do with how the ice is locked together at the seams or joints. Tongue and groove, spline, or dovetail interlocking sytems work well indoors with a controlled environment, but used on large applications outdoors will eventually come apart due to the stress from the expansion and contraction of the heat and cold. Pacific-Ice does not make claims that our synthetic ice does not expand and contract. All synthetic ice expands and contracts at a similiar rate. It is a scientific fact that, due to the molecular properties of the ice, it will expand and contract due to temperature fluctuations. What sets us apart from the other synthetic ice companies, is that, instead of trying to deny or fight the expansion/contraction, we allow for it. Pacific-Ice is the first and only company to research, design, and develop an engineered and patented installation system to eliminate gapping along the seams, even when the synthetic ice expands and contracts from -40 degrees to 140 degrees fahrenheit under the exposed sun. Pacific-Ice is the only company in the world that can build large permanent, seasonal, or portable synthetic ice hockey rinks outdoors with its proven outdoor application.

We separate ourselves from the competition with a streamlined installation process which securely interlocks the ice, eliminating the need for any splines, dowels, or pins. The synthetic ice surface has a clean look and feel.

Pacific-Ice has the best ice hockey surface compared to all other synthetic ice competitors in the world when comparing glide factors and the coefficient of friction. We use a solid core high density polymer UV protected with built-in release lubricant agents. In combination with a spray on water soluble glide enhancer one achieves over 90% performance when comparing it to refrigerated or frozen ice. Pacifc-Ice has the lowest coefficient of friction in comparison to all competitors. We are continually doing research and devlopment to maintain the #1 product line in the world for skating, hockey, and training.

Pacific-Ice uses a commerical grade NHL style (dasher) board designed specifically for outdoor use. The dasher boards are made with a high grade aluminum frame and UV protected fiberboard panels, kick strips, and top rail caps to withstand the elements of nature and abuse. The boards have a shock-absorbent design for extra safety and are secured with specialized heavy steel gauge anchors. These anchors help accomodate the synthetic ice so that it can move freely under the boards without any friction or vibration.
